"Middleweight" Wins High School Film Competition at Indy Shorts
| |
Jeremy Kemp's 5-minute short film Middleweight picked up the top prize in the High School Film Competition at the inaugural Indy Shorts International Film Competition in Indianapolis, a festival presented by Heartland Film celebrating and presenting short films with a run time of less than 40 minutes.
Launched in 2010, the High School Film Competition continues to encourage and recognize young filmmakers with not just an award but a $2,000 grand prize in what is officially known as the Summer White Lynch Award. The award is underwritten by Gary D. & Marlene Cohen.
In the film, Kemp follows Alan Kemp, a former professional middlweight boxer who reflects on his early life and boxing career in the involving, entertaining short film. Jeremy Kemp, a student at Capistrano Valley High School, nicely weaves together interviews with archival footage and photographs to create an enjoyable reflection on sports history.
