Movie Review: ESP

It won't take long to figure out what's going on in writer/director Cole Quirk's contagious three-minute comedy short ESP. The film stars a spot-on engaging Suellen Vance as Christine, a woman touring a church for her upcoming nuptials. Everything seems splendid until concerns are raised about whether or not the venue can accommodate her rather unique emotional support animal.
At a quick and breezy three minutes, ESP makes us laugh quickly and makes its point effectively courtesy of the delightful duo of Vance alongside Devon Michael Jones as Zach, a charming event host who begins to squirm his way through this awkward encounter seeking a way out before this support animal can get in.
The film is nicely shot by Elle Schneider with an appropriately complementary score by George Shaw. Quirk's storytelling isn't so much slice of life as it is a moment of life - and what a fine moment it is.
Quirk has a background in improv and sketch comedy and it sure shows here. This is the kind of indie comedy short you hope to find at an indie film fest with memorable characters and lots of laughs. Oh, and yeah, a pretty darn cool emotional support animal. You should check ESP out if you get the chance.
