There's a quiet little magic to Never Too Old, a short film directed by Morgan Martini and written by and co-starring Rolando Zee. Thefilm centers around two men, Florio (Gregory Niebel) and Jesse (Zee). They've been partners for 45 years, Jesse's hesitation toward marriage standing firm even after it became a legal possibility.

Until.

Adapted from an award-winning feature-length screenplay, Never Too Old is a lovely if not entirely satisfying short film about possibilities, hope, and the perseverance of love even in our latter years of life. Niebel and Zee have a warm, believable chemistry together and it all makes for a gentle, believable love story that doesn't depend upon unnecessary conflicts or histrionics to sell the narrative.

While Never Too Old has its issues, the characters are engaging and you can't help but appreciate their journey together in their later years. Original music by William Succi is winning and the film's atmosphere makes for a low-key romantic vibe even if I found myself longing for a more cohesive whole and an aura of overall magical romanticism.

Worth watching for the performances of Niebel and Zee, Never Too Old weaves a romantic tapestry not seen often enough on-screen and tells a meaningful, engaging story.
