Movie Review: The Sounds of Insanity
Antoine Morgan's The Sounds of Insanity is a seven-minute doozie of a short film, a heartfelt drama written and directed by and starring Morgan as a young man whose entire being feels on the brink of despair when we meet him at an isolated cabin in the woods.
His life is in a downward spiral as he's on the verge of eviction, his girlfriend has cheated on him, and he's losing out on an acting role for which everyone agrees he's perfect. It's enough to drive a guy insane.
Indeed, amidst the isolation of his setting it's the mind that truly fractures and impacts the desperate actions of this guy who seems like any other guy you might meet or, hey, even that guy who seems to have it all but really doesn't.
The Sounds of Insanity is a quick film, a mental health PSA of sorts that brings forth a sad but realistic storyline that grabs you and holds on to you for the duration of its running time. Morgan gives a tremendous performance here. It's empathetic and compelling, emotionally raw and devastating.
The Sounds of Insanity is a film to watch for if it shows up at a festival near you. It should definitely be playing at any festival having to do with mental health or social impact.
