Movie Review: Were-Flutter: Quest for Truth
| |
Were-Flutter: Quest for Truth is an unusual beast of a low-budget indie centered around Hope (Lex E. Rojas), whose discovery of a talisman has led to her transformation into, well, something you just have to see to believe.
This seven-minute short film centers around her efforts to discover the answers about this talisman and how it's impacted her life. After several false starts, she encounters the mysterious, all-business Frieda (Caitlyn Geiler), who at first doesn't seem that promising yet ends up being far more knowledgeable than expected.
Were-Flutter is a competently made and intriguing short film with a solid original score from Mara Pawlak and fun performances by both Rojas and Geiler. On IMDB, it's labeled as both fantasy and horror, leaning far more into the former than the latter with a couple of light laughs also tossed into the mix.
To their credit, both Rojas and Geiler keep things low-key here with performances that feel surprisingly ordinary against the weirdness. While Were-Flutter isn't likely to blow you away, it's an inventive litttle short and a good example of what can be done by a team with not a lot of money but a lot of imagination.
